The habit of 'Broughty Blaze' is more upright than spreading (especially in a young plant), the foliage very dark and bronzed. The flowers are dark crimson, typically zoned and carried on erect, 15cm (6") stems from early summer. The flowers compliment the dark foliage perfectly.
Very easily grown in almost all reasonable soils but colours best in full sun. It will self-seed where it is happy (but not in a nuisance way) and removing the faded flower stems will prevent this and keep the plant neat.
Forms of the 'Maiden Pink' are very common but we think this is a class above. An old variety now rarely offered - we might even be the only nursery still offering it.
