A wonderful Phlox, 'Wagon Wheel' grows as a sprawling, sometimes untidy, tangled mat of stems carrying, large, rounded, slightly fleshy leaves. Any lack of neatness in habit is more than compensated by these glorious flowers carried in large heads, the darker stripe on each petal giving the wagon wheel effect.
It requires different conditions to most alpine Phlox - prefers a cooler, perhaps lightly shaded site with a well-drained but moisture retentive, preferably slightly acid to neutral soil. Not at all difficult to grow when given these conditions. About 15cm (6") high when flowering.
