Good silvery mounds, tall stems of freckled flowers.
Our latest addition to our expanding list of silver, encrusted Saxifraga. 'Freckles' is well-named as the white flowers are liberally freckled with dark pink spots giving a nice effect. The flowers are carried on long, branched stems in early summer, often on stems as tall as 30cm (12") but the plant still looks exactly right in a miniature setting.
The foliage is good too - broad, pale green leaves with a subtle silvery cast from the lime encrustations that make so many of this group of plants desirable. One of the brightest and most silvery in spring - the images don't capture just how silver-edged those leaves are.
An easy grower, 'Freckles' prefers a soil on the gritty side.
