A smashing dwarf for early spring with the red (ish) flowers nestling just above the light green clumps. Slow and neat, it's an excellent choice for a stone trough or other special place. We find it survives well outside in well-drained compost but this will also make a superb specimen if given the protection of a alpine house or cold frame until flowering is over.
It doesn't quite live up to its 'ruby' name but it is a strong, rich colour and one of those colours that the camera can never quite replicate - it doesn't look nearly so violet as pictured here. Seldom offered. About 7cm high (3") at most.
