What we offer as 'Triste' has long, elegant leaves with sharp, dark reddish-purple tips on fairly large rosettes. A fairly vigorous grower that produces a good number of offsets soon making a large, bold clump.
If this is indeed 'Triste'; the German breeder. Erwin Geiger, says...
"many different clones have been cultivated under this name. Our attempt to find the real cultivar is futile. The descriptions of the last century from old botanical works, specialist literature and old catalogs from well-known perennial nurseries do not agree."
So this is 'our' version, the one we have grown for many years and for so many years I can't remember (and didn't then record) from where it came. It's a good plant so we continue to grow it.
